| Corryvreckan Whirlpool (Coirebhreacain) The Corryvreckan is one of only a handful of tidal whirlpools in the world. George Orwell wrote his novel 1984 on its southern shore. Legends abound about the origin of the name: the most common relates to the Gaelic phrase coire bhreacan, Brecan's Cauldron. There's a story about Prince Brecan and an attempt to woo a woman. Google will turn up several hits. Sea-fari offers tours of the whirlpool by boat from Easdale just south of Oban. Category: water sea whirlpool tidal dangerous
