The Yarrabee opencut mine is owned by Yarrabee Coal Company Pty Ltd whose beneficial owner is Resource Management & Mining Pty Ltd. The mine is located 40 km northeast of Blackwater and is operated by Yarrabee Coal Company Pty Ltd. Low and medium ash semi-anthracite coal is exported to Japan and Europe and sold to the Australian domestic market. Saleable coal production is approximately 1 Mtpa. Measured and Indicated coal resources are 29 million tonnes (2003). Reported workforce for Yarrabee in 2003 is 4 permanent and 60 contractors.

Location

The Yarrabee Open-Cut coal mine is located approximately 40 km North-East of Blackwater in Central Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

Ownership

The Yarrabee coal mine is a wholly owned subsidiary of Yancoal Australia since acquiring Felix Resources Ltd in December 2009.

Operational Description

The Yarrabee mine is an Open-Cut coal mine with a current capacity to produce 1.7mtpa of saleable low volatility, high energy, Pulverised Coal Injection (PCI) coal and Thermal coal. The coal which is produced at Yarrabee is exported mainly to steelmakers, power generators and general industry in Asia, Europe and the Americas. A coal preparation plant which commenced in 2008 ensures that the PCI product meets strict specification for our steel mill customers.

Expansion of the production and export capacity to 3.0 million tonnes per annum is currently under review.

This asset is well positioned to supply PCI coal to a market were the supply of PCI is very limited and tightly centralised around Queensland’s Bowen Basin region.

Extensive drilling during the past two years has resulted in a substantial increase in resources. Exploration is continuing. Yarrabee coal is railed to the R. G. Tanna and Barney Point Coal Terminals in Gladstone, Queensland.
