The Black Rock

The Black Rock is located above the beginning of the Maritsa River near the resort of Borovets at 1374 m above sea level.
The place was declared a natural landmark in 1974.
The name of the rock is associated with the fact that it was blackened by the weather.
It is a high rock above the Maritsa River, near its springs. It reveals a terrifying view of the neighboring foothills of the Rila Mountains and the valley of the Maritsa River. The rock has a rather gloomy reputation. There are reports that before and after September 9, 1944, dozens of people from the neighboring villages, who were uncomfortable with the then government, died here. There is a metal cross on the rock in memory of the victims.
