The stone Church of Kymi based on principal drawings by C.L. Engel was inaugurated in 1851. The Empire-style stone church stands on a hill in Karhula amidst pines and a cemetery. The altarpiece was painted by Berndt Godenhjelm. The vestry of the church houses a glass painting by Tapani Lemminkäinen, describing everyday life beside the river Kymijoki. The crystal candlesticks on the altar were donated by the workers of the Karhula Glass Factory in 1901.
