Xstrata Nickel Canada - Falconbridge smelter

Xstrata plc is an international diversified natural resources group operating in metals and minerals quoted on the London and Swiss Stock Exchanges. They recenlty bought out Falconbridge Ltd. through a friendly take-over bid. On Thursday, 2 November 2006 Xstrata completed acquisition of Falconbridge.

The Falconbridge Smelter's electric furnace converts the mineral concentrate into a high-grade matte containing nickel, copper, cobalt and platinum group metals. A sulphuric acid plant is also on site
