The manor of Lowesby was acquired in the mid-17th century by Richard Wollaston, a gun founder. The building exchanged many hands over the coming years until it was apportioned to Lady Fowke. The Fowkes remained owners until well into the 20th century. In 1910 Captain Harold Brassey, their tenant at Lowesby, brought in Edwin Lutyens (1866-1944) to alter and extend the Hall and to improve the gardens. Lowesby remains (1998) in private hands.
