Part of the Forest preserve District of Kane County, Big Rock Forest Preserve is an exceptionally fine natural area. You will find woodlands, high quality marshes and many small specialized habitats, where all sorts of interesting native plants grow and animals live.

The northern boundary adjoins a Girl Scout Camp, Camp Dean, and the confluence of Welch and Big Rock Creeks. There are several high sandy bluffs that overlook numerous woodland and prairie patches along these beautiful creek valleys and the clear stream water and rolling topography, make this new acquisition one of our best liked preserves.
The open, flat farmland south and west of Jeter Road has been continuously row-cropped for many years, and restoration work is planned for the future.
Fishing is allowed in the Big Rock Quarry on a catch and release basis.
