The Somali government owned this refinery outside of Mogadishu. Operated by the Iraqsoma Refinery Corporation, it was a topping refinery with a nameplate distillation capacity of 500 ktonnes per annum (10,000 bpd), though operation tended to be around 20% of rated capacity. The refinery is configured to run on Arabian light crude.
Since the outbreak of internal conflict in Somalia in 1991, the refinery has effectively been out of operation. To get it operational again would require a significant investment and major rehabilitation work.
