Bedroom community of Regina, population 1,867 (2006 census). The area was first settled in 1882, incorporating as a village in 1913. The population then dwindled to the point where the village was disbanded in 1923. It was re-incorporated in 1963, and achieved town status in 1979.

The origin of the community's name is derived from the flat-topped hill ("butte") that served as a lookout ("pilot") for hunting buffalo. Contrary to urban myth, it has nothing to do with being on the approach path to Regina Airport; the village was "Pilot Butte" 20 years before the first airplane was built. A monument was erected on top of the butte commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the community in 1982.
