Patton Island Bridge

The Patton Island Bridge opened to traffic in October 2002. It is part of a larger construction project of an expressway from S.R. 133 (Cox Creek Parkway) in Florence to U.S. 43 south of Muscle Shoals. The Patton Island Bridge is six lanes wide with a separated bicycle lane on the east side. The bridge is named for uninhabited Patton Island which it crosses. Other names have been proposed for the bridge, notably "Singing River Bridge" after the Native American name for the Tennessee River - but none has been adopted as of Dec. 2006.
