  • Ferncliff forest is having a fund raiser to replace the observation tower. More information can be found at http://www.staleyrealestate.com and rhinebeck.info . Ferncliff Forest today remains one of the few areas of old-growth forest in the region that is open to the public.
  • Ferncliff Forest is named after the famous Rhinebeck Estate of John Jacob Astor IV Ferncliff. After his death on the Titanic, Ferncliff was passed on to his son Vincent Astor who lived in Rhinebeck until his death in 1959. In 1963 Vincent's widow, Brooke Astor donated the 200 acres now known as Ferncliff Forest to the Rhinebeck Rotary Club to be a Forest Preserve and remain "Forever Wild". In the early 1970's Ferncliff was made into a Non For Profit (501C3) and has be looked after by a Board of Director's ever since. Ferncliff Forest Survives sonly on donations alone and efforts made through such fund raising event as the Annual "Ferncliff Forest Turkey Trot" held on Thanksgiving morning.
