Basingstoke railway station is a busy station located on the South Western Main Line with trains to London Waterloo, Southampton and Bournemouth. The line is at a junction for the branch to Reading which is used by CrossCountry, freight trains and a local shuttle. To the west there a line branching off towards Salisbury and there used to be one to Alton too. The station has historic Victorian buildings and 5 platforms.
