Hanging Valley Mine

Various USGS References; 4/1/79 Report by Luis A. Fraticelli : The mine is also known as the J. and M. Millovich. The ore consists primarily of scheelite, with garnet, quartz and epidote present. The host rock is hornfels and granite; with a thick talus material covering the extension of the tactite layer. The small ore body, about 95 feet long and 5 feet wide strikes north 55 degrees. Some production was recorded in 1942 (100 lbs of 1%+ WO3) and again in 1948 and 1949 (3,000 tons of 1.25% WO3). The workings are described as a 15 foot shaft and a 65 foot adit, which was later extended to 380 feet. There are two crosscuts and a 40 foot inclined winze, approximately 70 feet from the start of the second crosscut. This deposit is typical of those near Horton Lake, being relatively small and low-grade.
