One of the oldest hotels on Waikiki beach, operated for many years by the Matson line to accomodate their passengers.

The central wing was built in 1901. It is surrounded by two newer tower wings. The Diamond Wing, to the southeast, was built in 1950 as the SurfRider Hotel by Matson. Sheraton bought all of Matson's hotels in Hawaii in 1959. In 1969, Sheraton built a new hotel to the northwest and called it the Surfrider Hotel. The existing SurfRider Hotel was converted into a wing of the Moana.

Finally, in 1988, the three buildings were all entirely renovated and unified as the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. The historic wing, which had been extensively remodeled over the years, was gutted and restored to its original design. In July 2007, the hotel complex was converted to a Westin.
