The London Aquatics Centre, located at the Queen Elizabeth Park in Stratford, London Borough of Newham, is the venue for swimming, diving, and synchronised swimming events of the 2012 Summer Olympics and the swimming event of the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Designed by Zaha Hadid, the Aquatics Centre has a distinctive design incorporating a curved roof. During the Olympics, the venue will have a capacity of 17,500 (mostly in two temporary wings), which will be reduced to 2,500 afterwards. It will contain two 50-metre swimming pools and a 25 metre diving pool. It will replace the pools at the Crystal Palace Sports Centre in South London as the British capital's leading facility for aquatic sports. It was constructed from 2008 to 2011 at a cost of £303,000,000.
