  • Crown Gate is so named because it was erected at the intersection between G.T.Road and Joy Krishna Street by the Zamindars of uttarpara during the visit of Edward-VIII to India. It was a steel arch and at the middle of the arch was crown. Till the mid 1960s remnants of the gate wwere could be found at the site. Gradullay the steel structure disappeared completely. At present rickshaw pullers and bus conductors often by mistake call the road junction as Town Gate.
