TPuT - Sree valliyammai sametha sree subramanya swamy temple, vallliamalai is thirupugazh temple located on the hillside.
The hills speak of the famous love story of Lord Murugan and the tribal huntress, Valli. Lord Murugan is the son of Shiva and was born to destroy the demon Krauncha. He fell in love with Valli, a daughter of the local tribal hunter/gatherers, reputed to live on these hills. The Lord traveled on these hills to reach and proclaim his love for his beloved. WIth the help of Murugan's brother, Lord Pilayar (Ganesh, the two lovers could finally proclaim their love for each other and have been together ever since.
The saint Arunagirinathar has sung that out of his love and respect to Valli, Lord Murugan wished to sit himself at his beloved's feet and thereby, the lord's temple is at the mountain base while Valli-amman's is at the summit.
The hills are a wonderful place for trekking and can be reached quite easily through bus routes starting from Old bus stand, Vellore.
