Rosyth (pronounced Ross-sythe) (Scottish Gaelic: Ros Saidhe or Ros Saoithe) is a town located on the Firth of Forth, three miles (4.8 km) south of the centre of Dunfermline. According to the 2007 population estimate, the town has a population of 12,865.[1]
The town was founded as a garden city and was built to form the coastal port of Dunfermline which began in 1909. Currently, the port has the only direct ferry service to the European mainland from Scotland (The service stopped in September 2008 and is to restart in May 2009 under new operator Norfolkline). Rosyth is almost continuous with neighbouring Inverkeithing, separated only by the M90 motorway. Rosyth railway station is on the Fife Circle Line.
