களக்காடு (Kalakad)

Kalakad is under Tirunelveli District and actually it is the tourist place and I wish to describe the following: -

This Reserve is situated in the south Western Ghats of India. It is bound by forests in west, north and south and by villages in the east. The Western Ghats is among the 18 world biodiversity hotspots. Agasthiarmalai (1681 mtrs) which falls within the core zone of the Reserve is the 3rd highest peak in South India. Part of Agasthyamalai hills in the core of the Reserve is considered one of the five centres of plant diversity and endemism in India (IUCN). The topography is undulating.
This is the only area of Western Ghats which has longest raining period of about 8 months,and it is the only non-dipterocarp evergreen forest in the region.It is floristically very different from other sites.

The rich forests of the Reserve form the catchment area for 14 rivers and streams. Among them the Tambraparani, Ramanadi, Karayar, Servalar, Manimuthar, Pachayar, Kodaiyar, Kadnar, Kallar form the back-bone of the irrigation network and drinking water for people of Tirunelveli, Turicorin and part of Kanyakumari district. Sever major dams - Karaiyar, Lower Dam, Servalar, Manimuthar, Ramanadi, Kadnanadi and Kodaiyar - owe their existence to these rivers.

It's my own village.actually i am staying at nagercoil but most of my relatives are in there.Its a vrey beautiful village.If you reach kalakad immediately you see many monkeys since its hill area.and one big temple is there.

A nice please indeed with lots of pleasant sights. I was travelling from Tirunelveli to Nagercoil and decided to go via Kalakkad - simply because my mother had told me once that her grandfather was from Kalakkad. I landed at the bus stop and took a rick to the Pachiar dam.

The view of the mountain was breathtaking. In the month of March, I could see from a distance a waterfall - as a long white line from a distance.

A place worh seeing.

I have been living in kalakad since 1992, becase that is the year in which i born.My full name is M.Dhinesh panneer. Kalakad is the only place which gives sufficient rainfall,normal heat,normal coolness,etc.
My friend Pradheep who is also a native of kalakad is now studyng in madras and getting practice from Cricket academy.It is sure that he will become a cricketeer.My aim is to become a politician and to serve this area by laying good roads,etc,.
Kalakad will give birth to many such citizens like Tagore bharathiyar ABDUL KALAM

The history of Kalakad, though more than 1000 years old, is not fully and properly known. As per very recent findings of experts who inspected the big temple here, the earlier names have been found as " Cholakula vallipuram". Attemps are being made now to conduct major repairs to the Rajagopuram of the temple. My native place is kalakkad and i am really proud that i belong to that lovely place. Now I am in chennai but I want to go back to kalakkad because that place has a lot of lovely memories in my mind. When I took my wife to Mundanthurai forest she was totally impressed and happy. I am trying to buy a land there but somehow iam not able to.

MY NETIVE PLACE SADAYAPURAM IS LONG IN 13KM IN KALAKAD.
I LOVE IN MY NETIVE PLACE . THE SMALL VILLAGE OF SIVANTHI PURAM IS VERY BEAUTIFUL OF NATURAL VILLAGE AND NICE PEOPLE IN THE NEARST OF KAKAKAD DAM.

kalakad... when u utter this name the next thing that strikes ur mind is those greenish gardens and the paddy fields that surmounts this village.it indubitably a tourist place worth to be visited
