Located in Collinsville, Illinois where the Illinois, Mississippi, and Missouri rivers intersect, Cahokia was the largest community north of Mexico in the ancient Americas. It is well-known for its more than 120 massive mounds of earth that were used as foundations for public buildings and homes of high-ranking officials, the largest mound is over one hundred feet tall.
