Strong springs sprouting out of limestone walls of the Zheravya (Crane) hill as picturesque waterfalls; people believe that this ice-cold, tasty fresh water has healing and rejuvenaying properties. The other name of the springs is "River of Life". The springs are also believed to be holy, and the Archbishop of Pskov and Velikiye Luki anually serves a mass here, sanctifying the water. Once, the springs were strong enough to give power to a watermill.
More springs are in the lake and in the marshy land on its shores to the North-East from here.
