Neighborhood in Washington DC with an "old town" feel due to great variety of small businesses, a local movie theater, and restaurants along Connecticut Avenue. The neighborhood sprang up after the completion of the streetcar line from downtown Washington out to Chevy Chase circle in the early 20th Century. Housing stock is mostly from the 1910s-1920s, with many homes enlarged/improved to larger sizes today.

"Chevy Chase" (from the old English Cheivy Chace, which meant "good hunting") was a wooded area that was part of a land grant dating from 1725 from Lord Baltimore in the colony of Mary Land. It spanned parts of what is now Montgomery Country the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia. Chevy Chase, Maryland is directly north of Chevy Chase, DC, but is a more suburban, more upscale and "established." community. Prior to its development as a bedroom community outside Washington, DC it was primarily farmland.
