Sherpur Mosque (Haji Yaqub) (Kabul)

Afghanistan / Kabul / Kabul

Most Kabulis refer to the square as Chahrahi (Crossroads of) Haji Yaqub and the mosque as Masjid-i-Haji Yaqub although the municipality dubbed it the Sherpur Mosque when they built it for the city in 1957. The blue tiles used in decorating the facade were made in the workshops of the famous mosque of Herat. Their glistening color has led foreigners to call it the Blue Mosque.
