The war was not lost by the Americans. It was declared a draw.

The Americans lost because the invasion of Canada was repelled and annexation was prevented. After Napoleon's defeat the British were able to free up 1 Million men at arms and the entire British Navy. Britain succesfully invaded Washington DC.
