suburb, draw only border
Named by Bishop Pompellier, the first Catholic Bishop of New Zealand. Pompellier purchased all this area and named it St Mary's Mount, intially a church was built here with two convents and mission school for maori children. The Convent School is still a feature of the area and along side it is a Catholic Nursing Home & Hospital
The Catholic Bishop of Auckland has always had a residence here and the area unsurprisingly attracted many Roman Catholic people who built houses in and around St Mary's Bay. Many of these people were Irish and this is reflected in some of the street names {Ireland, Green, Dublin}
