Alejandro Selkirk Island, previously known as Isla Más Afuera, is the second largest and most westerly island of the Juan Fernández Islands. It is situated 181 kilometres (112 mi) west of Robinson Crusoe Island. The island is currently uninhabited, though there is a former penal settlement on the middle of the east coast, which was operative from 1909 to 1930. About 20 buildings still can be made out on detailed satellite images.
This island is named in honour of Alejandro Selkirk, who was cast-away for four years on Robinson Crusoe Island.
