In 1942-1944 the German occupiers built this field battery between 1942 and 1944 as part of the Atlantic Wall to defend the port of Nieuwpoort located west. It is located three kilometres inland.

Bamburg is unique because it is the only fully-fledged field battery of the Atlantic Wall between Boulogne-sur-Mer and the Scheldt estuary. It shows a variation in trenches and bunkers of different typologies.
