This pub is on the site of a former pub that played a role in the Easter Rising. Known as Reilly's Fort, the premises were one of the strong points in the rebellion. British casualties were high and they took their vengeance on anybody and everybody. The British killed many innocent civilians - in one instance a woman reported seeing soldiers playing cards on a rug thrown over her murdered husband's body. Although a military investigation was carried out, the whole affair was, like so many others, covered up and forgotten. There is a plaque on the wall in memory of Kevin Barry, who was captured nearby.
