This dam is constructed across the river Walayar, a tributary of Bharathapuzha, The ayacut is 6476 hectares. This project was started in 1953, partially commissioned in 1956 and completed in 1964.
Walayar Dam is in Palakkad district of Kerala, south India. It is one of the major sources of irrigation in the region. Also many industries such as MALABAR cements depends this dam for daily water requerment.
