Millets (Leicester)

United Kingdom / England / Leicester / Granby Street, 121
 sporting goods store, historical building

The Temperance Hotel, which was originally named the Commercial Hotel, was designed by James Medland and built by the local firms of Holland Smith and Lindley & Firn. The arch on the left of the hotel was large enough to admit the coaches and circus trailers that came to the hall, which, during the latter half of the nineteenth century was the main centre of entertainment in Leicester. The hotel ceased to serve as such in 1895. During World War I it served as Leicester's food office and is now used by an insurance company (upper floors) and camping store (ground floor). Although the façade of the ground floor has been drastically altered, that of the top floor looks much as it did in 1853.
