Till 1963, Turkish and Greek Cypriots were living together in a peacefull island. However, this situation was damaged when Greek Cypriots (or their leaders) tried to connect the island to Greece. To do so, they unfortunally caused a war in Cyprus and Turkey came to island to ensure peace and protect Turkish Cypriots. The best way to ensure peace in Cyprus was to divide island, because here are two different community, and Turkey did it. Since 1983, here is peace again in Cyprus. The only problem is that rest of world did not recognize TRNC because of WHAT. Two community can also join to European Union as a whole island and sound same, but, everyone must know that here are two different community and two different nations.  place comments:
