The YMCA was a swimming facility open to the public for a nominal fee. Althuogh oftentimes Sarah Hiser (Dan Hiser's grandmother) would sneak Mike Jackson and Dan Hiser into the facility. Her Platinum Status as a Lifetime member earned the respect of employees at the facility who dared not question her deceptive tactics. Local sports legends Dan Hiser and Mike Jackson could be found 3 to 4 days a week during the afternoon of a hot sunny day in the late 1980s.....often preceeding an intense match of tennis or community baseball game. Legend has it that Dan Hiser mastered the ultimate splash maneuver known as the "can opener" at this location. It was not unusual for the youngster at that time to get the whistle from lifeguards working the pool side opposite the high dive as a result of immense showers raining down on them while clothed. Jackson at the same time was more concerned with aerial acrobatics off the board, mastering the one and a half. One of the greatest events in the history of the YMCA Swim Center was witnessed by Jackson and Hiser on one summer afternoon. While it was common for people to attempt to get great distance off the high dive, one gentleman approached Jackson and Hiser and claimed he was goin to perform the "Michael Jordan Dive". This man got on the high dive and preceeded to propell himself futher than any person in the Swim Center's history, nearing crossing the rope which dividing the diving well from the shallow portion of the pool, while in the patented Jordan Jumpman pose. This man would leave the swim center and never be seen again. The story of the Michael Jordan Dive is told to this day and will live on for ever.
