headland, tourist attraction
Mizen Head, formerly known as the Ivagha Peninsula, is a headland on the Mizen Peninsula in County Cork. Nearby Brow Head holds the honour as being the southernmost point of mainland Ireland. However, Mizen is the more accessible of the two and is frequently quoted as the southernmost point.
Located on the promontory of the headland are an old signalling station, a weather station, and a lighthouse. The signalling station, now a museum, is open to visitors. The lighthouse is accessed by a rope bridge from the visitor car park.
