Crain Highway (Md. Rt. 3.) Uppermost practical paddling launch as above Patuxent and Little Patuxent confluence just upriver trees block passage. Downstream some trees persist despite clearing efforts (www.paxriverkeeper.org). Awkward, short, steep, carry near poison ivy to launch. Southwest side (west side of southbound lanes) best. Legal parking on Rt. 3 and legal put-in despite occasional unwarranted objections from Roman Catholic Clergy caretakers who administer "Black Marsh preserve" here downstream for two miles and upstream for a mile, all on the west side. Narrow strip along east side of river for 3/4 mile upstream and 1/2 mile downstream owned by Anne Arundel Parks and Recreation. (Md. law allows launching on road right-of-ways and paddling any of the several braided branches of the Patuxent here.
