Excavation at the recently found 2,500 year old city at the site of Tarighat in Durg district of Chhattisgarh has begun which yielded not only gold and copper coins but also ornaments and means of amusement- indicating a rich and affluent lifestyle of several dynasties.
The ancient city located 30km from the capital was found buried in 2008 in Patan tehsil of Durg district. Its remains indicate that it was a well-planned city dating back to second and third century BC and is being touted as the first and greatest archaeological discovery in Central India.
"The remarkable discovery has been coined as Kharun valley civilization as the city has been found on the banks of Kharun river and is one of the richest lifestyle here. The most interesting aspect as of now is that the objects found include means of amusement like dice made of ivory and terracotta, three fishing nets, sling balls and hub scotch also called 'billas'."
