Vechur farm is the centre for conservation of Vechur breed of cattle, a dwarf breed of cattle, which was very popular at one time as a household breed in Kerala. The credit of saving the Vechur cattle from the brink of extinction goes to a conservation programme undertaken by Dr.SosammaIype in the Kerala Agriculture University (KAU).The breed is valued for the large amount of milk it produces relative to the amount of food it requires and disease resistance. Here , at vechur farm Centre for Advanced Studies in Animal Genetics & Breeding (CASAGB),KAU has been conducting research on this breed.
