South Boston (Boston, Massachusetts)

Originally, a predominantly Irish neighborhood of Boston, formerly known as Dorchester Neck. Today, "Southie" is in the throes of a very expansive gentrification and real estate boom. What was once an extremely insular and close knit neighborhood, Southie is rapidly changing its image to become "the" place to live for young Bostonians who don't want to live in the Back Bay or South End. Southie is home to alot of very colorful Boston history, including Dorchester Heights, the home of famed Irish Mob Boss James "Whitey" Bulger and Castle Island and Fort Independence.
