Originally number 16, Edmund Street, the House That Moved was at threat of being demolished in 1961 to make way for a new road system to be built from the Exe Bridge.

However, archaeologists managed to convince the government to spend £10,000 to have it moved to a new location. It was moved 70m from its old site on Frog Street to its current location on iron rails, and attracted a lot of media attention.

Now it is a home for a bridal shop, Pirouette The Collection. In business since 1980.

  • We have a scale model of the house that moved which we wondered if you were interested in having. We can forward photographs if you are interested. Hope to hear from you later. Joan Brodie
  • Joan Brodie, If you have the photo of this building, you can upload to the tag yourself. I think it should be interesting to see.
