The University of Arizona (UA or U of A) is a land-grant and space-grant public institution of higher education and research located in Tucson, Arizona. The University of Arizona was the first university in the state of Arizona, founded in 1885, when Arizona was still a territory. UA includes Arizona's only allopathic medical school. In 2005, total enrollment was 37,036 students.

  • Home of the wildkittens.
  • Local citizens were originally upset that the territorial legislature awarded Tucson a university instead of a sanitarium. As a result the University was almost not built as the land needed was only donated just prior to the bill authorizing the funding expired. Land "way out on the east side" was donated by a saloon keeper and two gamblers. God bless 'em.
