Taluka place in Bidar district exists since 10th century. Birth place of Kumbara Gundaiah, a saint of 12th century. Has a fort built in 15-16th century, mainly used as military barracade. Good number of education institutions are present in the town. Well planned but poorly maintained town. Has a mutt in old town area engaged in good educational effort. Central place for business to surrounding 12 villages. Good fertile black soil growing green gram, blackgram and redgram.
