    PORUL AATCHI was the Actual name of pollachi. As the actual name depicts, its a place which has the biggest shandy in the state. Businness and Agriculture are the main areas of interest for pollachians. Scenic loactions with lots of Coconut farms (Thennamthoppu). Beautiful place with excellent weather and good water. More over people are very respectful and beleive in family values. Being very close to coimbatore(38 KM), we can also be in touch with all the fast happenings of a Metro city. Lots of educational institutes are nearby. Regular fixture in all Tamil movies, lots of Telugu, malayalam and hindi movies. I'm , Born and Brought up at Pollachi. My Parents still live there. Iam planning to Settle down at Pollachi.

    Pollachi town is about 40 Kms from Coimbatore on the way to Parambikulam - Aliyar Project. Next to Coimbatore it is the leading town of the district and an important commercial centre. Pollachi is a town and a municipality in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India. Pollachi is the nearest town to Indira Gandhi National Park and it exports coconuts and tender coconuts to all over India.There are several coconut groves and hence it is called as ‘Coconut City’. Since Pollachi is near to Western Ghats, it has a pleasant climate throughout the year. Pollachi is also termed as a trendy film location for Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi film industry. Therefore, it is also called as “Mini Kodambakkam”. It has a big market for agricultural products which is the main occupation of India. Jaggery Market in Pollachi is Asia’s largest jaggery market.There are several notorious tourist spots in and around Pollachi. In ancient times Pollachi was known as ‘Pollil Vaichi’ which means “The land of natural Wealth and Prosperity” or ‘Porull Aatchi’ (The Land of Wealthy Government). In olden days it was said that everything is sold and bought in market including elephants in a form of barter system. During the period of Kulottunga Chola III , Pollachi was known as Mudi Konda Chola Nallur (Crowned King). The Subramanyar temple is one of the most ancient temple in Pollachi with a history of about 8 centuries back. You can also come across the name ‘Pollil Vaichi’ in Lord Subramanyar temple. It is also believed that this temple was once a Shiva temple, enshrining Agastheeswaram Udaiyaar, with the festival idol Subramanyar. A temple dedicated to Mariamman and another to Subramanya are located here. There are beautiful stone carvings like a five hooded serpent, a Yali with a chain from its mouth and carved zodiacal signs in the Subramanya temple.

    Pollachi is a Market place for Agricultural and Cattle Products. Being it is the gate way to Kerala, the potential for trade is good. Arasamplayam is one of the Main villages in Pollachi Taluk. Lord Murugan Temple situated amidst coconut estate here is very beautiful and powerful. It was founded by Mr.Ayyasamy thevar in his own coconut estate in 1960's. Since then every year 'padha yathra' to Palani is being practised. People from the sorrounding villages are gathering here on the day of "Thaipoosam" every year in a large number. They all together carry "Kavadi" and processing "Padha Yatra" to Palani.

    I am a native of pollachi and i think i am a gifted person. because i have gone to many places in south india but i could not find a prosperous, beautiful and calm place like pollachi. currently i am pursuing my master's degree in chennai and doing my project in tuticorin. But i really hate these places because of climate. chennai is a dirty and ugly place...that too mainly tambaram!...i feel to be safe in pollachi. My wish is that i have to make pollachi a renowned, a prosperous, beautiful, peaceful city in the world..never think that pollachi is some XYZ town like others! it's a NO.1 PEACEFUL AND PROSPEROUS CITY!
