Built on or close to the site of W.H. Audens childhood home, Harborne swimming baths has been providing leisure facilities to the harborne area since 1925. The baths front onto Lordswood road and is well utilised by local schools and residents of the city due to the 8 bus stops within 100 meters.
Since 2002 the closure of Harborne pool has been a possibility as, according to the council, "it had reached the end of it's economic life". However, since then the Harborne society have been campaigning to keep the swimming baths and on 3rd July 2006 the city council finally accepted that there should be leisure facilites kept at this site and are moving forward with a business plan for a 25 meter pool, a teaching pool and a 1st floor sports hall.
