The turn basin was originally built to allow barges to off load the S-IC first stage and and S-II second stage of the Saturn V launch vehicle. They were then rolled into the VAB for processing and stacking. It's now used to do the same thing for the Space Shuttle External Tank.

  • They are first towed to the Solid Rocket Booster processing facility at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, reconditioned, then brought here.
  • The ET (External fuel Tank) is also delivered here. This is the body of water seen behind the countdown clock.
