Tavuki Village is the head of the Kadavu Province. Also known as Nacolase. Fijian greats from this village include Ratu Nacagilevu who was one of the Fijian chiefs that ceded Fiji to Great Britain in 1874. Also hailing from Tavuki are the Nanovo's and Nawalowalo's who have been prominent leaders of the province of Kadavu. One of Kadavu's great leader and Roko Tui was Ratu Apakuki Nanovo a brother of the late Bulou Amalaini Tagitagivalu Nanovo.

Tavuki is the head of the Kadavu Province. Kadavu is known as the "MANUDUITAGI", meaning individual chief is known only in his domain. For example, Tui Nakasa is recognised by all the memebers of Tikina Nakasaleka as the highest chief in Kadavu. They do not recognise other chiefs but acknowledge and respect that they are chiefs in their own turfs. Mai ya so.

The seat of office and administrations of the Kadavu Province is located at Tavuki village, if that makes it the 'Head' village of Kadavu is debatable. Personally I would make Vunisea the ideal location as the province seat of power, there's already an airfield, a landing stage for local shippings, a hospital, a Post Office, shops and a secondary school; and Vunisea can easily be converted into a sizable town if those in position of power in Kadavu have the will to do so !! Sa dri yani !!

Geez guys....get over it...Kadavu isa Great Province regardless of all this bickering and infighting...Even though I was raised in Australia I am certainly proud of my Kadavu heritage and as long as I live It will always be home to me and my Family...Vinaka...Ratu Nacagilevu Naborisi Nanovo Gutugutuwai.....Grandson of the late Bulou Amalaini Nanovo....Brisbane Australia..

The Turaga Bale na Tui Tavuki is the Paramount chief of Tavuki district and NOT Kadavu province. His power is only recognised within his territory. Also, Nacolase is only used by Tavukians. There is a total of 9 districts on the island which means that there are 9 Paramount chiefs all together. Come on, lets stop giving false information for the sake of being recognised. nomu turaga jiko ga mai tavuki!!!!

It never ceases to amaze me that people will jump on the PC bandwagon and play the tired old chiefly card on Kadavu when map of Tavuki village is given. Instead of stupidly writing on the chiefly system of Kadavu that is becoming more of a relic or archaic institution, how about you jump on another bandwagon and get up in arms about the way the idiotic, substandard writers in this column who aired their grievances against Tavuki village. DRRRR it’s only a map for crying out loud and, certainly, not a place to air your second rated thoughts... (J.V: Tayaga noqu drawe mai Wailokaloka

Vinaka, George (or Joji )…it, appears your input has finally put a stop to all these trash-talk on the status of Tavuki village. By the way, who gives a hoot on the “dying” or “already dead” institution like the chiefly system! Perhaps, this irritating individual(s) who posted comments against Tavuki village is an egotistic delusionary individual who has nothing better to write than to masturbate on his own poo all day

ylei this bickering has been going on as long as i can remember ....and it bores the hell out of me...maybe those were they wrong interpretations given to us when we were growing up and nobody cares about it anymore...its a modern day and age....im from Tavuki and im proud to be one..." Manu Dui Tagi " as we say it...yes...!!...so lets leave it at that....! but if there is a centre of Kadavu thats needs to be upgraded in the future it would be Vunisea...that way no one cares which Bulou is from where..besides its just a map...yleii tutu fong!!...lol

Vinaka Aggie for your comment. Da na dua vaka rauta kina jiko na vanua da due ta mai ke. The important thing is we all know who we are and our history. Check Fiji museum to see if your Roko Tui X is in the Deed of Cession photo. Can't challenge that - not even have fancy comments. When fundraising for the Bulou Ni Ceva it proved something - in unity we are a great people who not dream big but have the will to do our families proud. So next time anyone wishes to say who is greater than who - remember all provinces in Kadavu are united as ONE. Be unique in your commentary and inspire unity. The most powerful testament is what have you and above kids achieved. Be proud of being from Kadavu and 'Carpe diem' (cease the day).
