Columbia's student center designed in the Postmodernist style in 1999 by Bernard Tschumi with Gruzen/Samton Associates, inside Lerner Hall is a 1,500-seat auditorium that includes a 400 seat balcony, bookstore, three dining facilities, a black box theater, 24-hour computer labs, a pool and games room, facilities for WKCR and Columbia TV, the Double Discovery Center, and many other lounges and offices occupy the center. It is located on the former site of Ferris Booth Hall. Funding was provided by Alfred Lerner, CEO of MBNA Corporation.

The façade of the building is distinguished by a 5,600 square foot class wall system built by Eiffel Constructions Metalliques, descendant of the firm that built the Eiffel Tower.

The interior and exterior as used as a filming location for S1E1 of the CBS series "Madam Secretary".
