Constructed in 1906-07 to house a branch of the Winnipeg-based Northern Bank, it is one of the oldest commercial structures remaining in the downtown area. In 1908, after an amalgamation with Toronto’s Crown Bank, it was known as the Northern Crown Bank.

Its low-relief pediment sculpture depicts the settlement of the prairies. It was restored and designated a provincial heritage property in 1989.

Its current tenant is Beer Bros. Bakery & Cuisine.
