Cherry Creek State Park

USA / Colorado / Centennial /
 park, reservoir, dam

Park formed around Cherry Creek Reservoir, which was formed by the construction of a flood-control dam along the northwest side. The dam (and reservoir) were built after a storm dropped over 25 inches of rain in less then 24 hours, flooding the area. A true jewel in southeast Denver. A nice place to bike, too... The park hosts a 7-race weekly Individual (cycling) Time Trial series each April/May. You'll also find an R/C airfield, shooting range, jet ski rentals, and deer.

  • A popular method for local residents to beat traffic from the Denver Tech Center business park (due south of downtown) to the Southeast corridor of Denver is to cut through the State Park during rush hour. This requires a daily $7 or annual $110 State Parks pass for your automobile.
  • One can take the Cherry Creek Dam Road for free from just behind Cherry Creek High School to Parker Road near the I-225 junction.
  • This is at the moment a popular method for people to beat traffic from the DTC. But not know to most of the people that do this there will be a fee of $7 for a day pass or $65 for a year (with the water basin sticker (cherry creek requires a water basin sticker to pay for water clean up do to the pollution from the city)) for each car that goes though without a pass. People that try to beat this will get getting a $50 ticket from a park ranger at each gate starting in June 2008. The park is a lot more then just a fast pass for commuters. There is fishing, hiking, and bike trails. There is a campground for people that just want to get away but don't want to leave the city. The camp ground has wireless internet for free (only works in some spots but I am working on fixing that). There is a lot more just don't feel like making a book on cherry creek state park right now.
  • Actually, Mr. Jeff, the Dam Road does not require the state parks pass or the CC Water Basin sticker.
  • I was talking about the people that go tough the actual park. The dam road gets jam pack a lot.
