Hauteville House was the house bought during its exile by Victor Hugo on May 16th, 1856 not to be expelled (the law forbidding to expel the people having properties on the island). This building was acquired by Victor Hugo with the first successes of the publication of the collection of poetries The Ponderings. Built by 1800 by an English privateer, the house belonged to certain William Ozanne but having the reputation to be haunted by the spirit of a woman who had committed suicide there, it was idle for several years. According to the English use, Hugo baptized her not Freedom as he intended but Hauteville there. The proriéty was transformed, fitted out, furnished and decorated over time by tea writer who lived in exiles there from 1856 till on 1870 and returned during tea summer, on 1878 there.
She consists of 4 levels and is dominated we tea third floor by have golden belvedere crystal room golden has look out from where we discover tea port of Saint-Pierre-Port. Tea garden below, planted by trees and decorated with flowers in abundance, take advantage of tea sweetness of tea climate.
