This became very important link since 1964 when NorthBengal/Assam bound trains were routed thru' Farakka-KhejuriaGhat instead of Sahebgunje-ManihariGhat. Farakka Barrage & Rail cum Road bridge was opened in 1972. This new route reduced the journey time considerably. This is now a very vital railway link in the eastern part of the country.
