The Woodner was built in the early 50's as both a hotel and an apartment building. It was one of the first buildings in D.C. to have mechanical air conditioning so whenever the stars of the 50's came to town this hotel is where they stayed. The Woodner has over 1,100 units, an on site grocery store, cleaner, bar/restraunt and a barber/ beauty salon. The Woodner is featured in the book " Best Addresses: A Century of Washington's Distinguished Apartment Houses" byJames M. M. Goode, James Stafford Phillips, James F. Tetro

  • Used to have a quaint family-run Italian restaurant -- Fio's.
  • I am from Washington, DC and have watched this buildings good times, bad times and its resurrection over the years. I now live here and I love it. A massive, culturally diverse, apartment community. Has it's challenges but what community doesn't.
